Born and raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta, I, Chad, was immersed in my Grandfather's glass business from an early age. Witnessing the potential of creating a venture that could benefit my family, community, and future, I became inspired to chart my own entrepreneurial path. At just 12 years old, the spark ignited within me, leading to the launch of my first business venture, Bulldog Lawn Service—a humble lawn mowing enterprise. It was during this time that I honed my negotiation skills and followed in my grandfather's footsteps, consistently exceeding expectations and delivering exceptional service to my valued customers.
As the years progressed and I reached the age where most embark on their careers, I too entered the realm of the Oil and Gas industry. My journey commenced on drilling rigs, and I ventured into roles encompassing gas plant operation, pipelining, truck driving, and even ice road construction. However, amidst these roles, I found myself traversing a path that felt solitary and monotonous, with hours that failed to bring a sense of fulfillment.
At the age of 22, a pivotal turning point emerged when I secured an apprenticeship as an industrial scaffolder within Local Union 1325. Attaining my Journeyman certification marked the launchpad for an upward trajectory. This journey led me to ascend the corporate ranks, overseeing diverse domains such as new construction, maintenance, and remote worksites. Over the course of 12 years, I chased the allure of financial success, all the while grappling with the reality of earning less than I expended and enduring prolonged periods away from home.
It was during this juncture that the catalyst for change was activated. In the midst of this realization, I unearthed a pathway out of the cycle, which spurred me to make transformative decisions for my future.
Recognizing that the key to attaining the life I desired lay in addressing more significant challenges than those I currently faced, I embarked on a journey of curiosity and awareness. I observed the obstacles surrounding me, and it was during this introspective period that the initial spark of an idea ignited.
It became evident to me that our work vehicles had to leave sites for routine service, incurring both financial costs for the company and valuable time. Moreover, this practice meant one less truck and worker available for the day. This realization gave birth to the concept of Moboil—a mobile oil change business designed to provide on-site servicing for equipment. This innovative approach ensured that the vehicle was only temporarily out of commission for a few hours, minimizing the impact on the workforce.
Investing over $100,000.00, I meticulously outfitted a truck with everything necessary to kickstart this venture. While this story may seem poised for success, the 2015 contraction in the oilfield industry proved to be a formidable challenge. Unfortunately, with limited experience in navigating the complexities of business growth, I lost my contracts, and within six months, the company folded.
This lit inside of me a burning desire to transition from the trades to the realms of sales and business ignited within me. Recognizing the invaluable learning experiences offered by proximity to start-ups and accomplished individuals, I deliberately chose to alter my trajectory.
I began my journey by joining a friend's local door-to-door rock chip repair business for automotive glass. The path ahead was challenging, marked by countless rejections and closed doors, leading me to realize that the catalyst for change resided within myself.
During this pivotal time, I connected with a local business owner overseeing the largest framing company in Edmonton. Building a relationship with him, primarily through interactions at the gym, I sought to add value and pose insightful questions. This connection evolved into a mentorship, guiding me on the principles of personal growth and development, emphasizing the significance of reading, writing, and listening to developmental audios. His wisdom resonated: the fastest path to success involved surrounding oneself with successful individuals and emulating their practices. He also imparted the wisdom that "if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together."
Armed with newfound insights, I transitioned into the residential and commercial alarm business. Knocking on doors daily, absorbing wisdom from Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar, and Brian Tracy, I persistently turned rejections into affirmatives. Within a year, I initiated my own sub-dealer program and launched my alarm business, establishing a solid foundation in Edmonton that propelled me toward expansion into Vernon, BC.
However, the unforeseen challenge of the Covid pandemic led to a setback in the alarm business. Adapting to the changing landscape, I collaborated with a friend in his digital marketing agency, once again knocking on the doors of businesses around Vernon to understand their unique challenges and add value. We secured the business of Papa John's pizza and a couple of smaller local enterprises, helping deliver ads, create campaigns, and establish a brand in Vernon.
Recognizing the need for a broader market reach, I made a transition to online education with the help of a friend. Alongside my co-founder, we established Wealth Builders, a community supporting an online education platform. From 2020 to 2023, we cultivated a community of over 1000 students. In this endeavor, I discovered a genuine passion for coaching, developing individuals, and reshaping perspectives on the world, failure, success, and life.
To this day, I continue to host calls and assist people in changing the way they think and perceive life. With over 10 years of experience in business, I thrive in helping companies scale and grow while contributing a contagious attitude to the team and unparalleled customer service to clients.
Recently, I've developed a passion for innovation and am in the process of creating the first structurally engineered men's brief boxers, currently in the prototype and patent stage. Alongside this growth, I found a passion for writing and am currently finishing two books.
My goal is to always be a student, consistently learning, growing, and evolving to keep pace with the fast-changing world around us.
There is nothing more rewarding than personal growth and nothing more amazing than helping others achieve the same.
